GAC is bursting at the seams with lots of new greyhounds rescued from across the U.S. Just this weekend, the “social media” group debuted with two girls and four boys – one the size of a small pony and aptly named for the social media giant, Facebook.
He arrived with Twitter, a sweet little girl with a fractured her right leg who is already booked to see the surgeon.
[rigg]You can help us care for Twitter with a donation to the Specialty Medical Care fund. This fund covers costly surgeries for greyhounds who suffer severe injuries on the track. Our transport team has been busy for the past two weeks, driving all the way to Arizona to bring in six dogs on June 21. The rescue van’s air conditioning failed on the way home forcing the team to cope with temps hovering around 118 degrees. So the dogs were iced down for the six-hour ride to San Diego!
Three of the boys are lurchers from the American Lurcher Project: Beach, Sailing and Sandcastle. And two racers from Alabama – Summer and Solstice – are just happy hounds. The final boy from Kansas is Frisbee, one greyt big dog!
He was not crated on the way home and just lounged on the van’s back seat. You can see more photos of the newest arrivals on our Flickr page.
The kennel is so busy, several dogs have been sent to foster homes. Many thanks to the GAC volunteers who open their homes to help us make room for more rescues. We are always in need of volunteers to help take care of the hounds!
